Pune | 20 March, 2026: The prestigious Maharashtra Kesari wrestling championship is set to witness high-voltage action in Wagholi, Pune, as seasoned champions and emerging talents prepare for fierce challenge in the traditional red-soil arena. Known as a symbol of pride in Maharashtra’s sporting culture, the tournament this year promises a gripping mix of experience and youthful aggression.

Five established wrestlers Sikandar Shaikh, Dada Shelke, Prithviraj Mohol, Harshvardhan Sadgir, and Prithviraj Patil are competing for the coveted ‘double Maharashtra Kesari’ title. At the same time, Pune’s own Shivraj Rakshe is aiming to script history by clinching a rare ‘triple Maharashtra Kesari’ honour.

Adding to the excitement, a strong group of young wrestlers including Mahendra Gaikwad, Mauli Kokate, Prakash Bankar, Mauli Jamdade, Raviraj Chavan, Jaydeep Patil, and Shubham Shidnale are stepping into the arena with determination to claim the prestigious silver mace for the first time.

The opening bouts have already delivered thrilling performances. Mahendra Gaikwad secured a convincing 6-1 win over Vishal Bankar, while Balu Bodke registered an impressive 10-5 victory against Mauli Jamdade. Sikandar Shaikh dominated his bout with a 8-1 win, and Prithviraj Mohol showcased strength in the mat division. Shivraj Rakshe also advanced with a confident win.
In the 57 kg category, Kolhapur’s Mrunal Patil clinched the gold medal, marking a strong start for the district.With every bout expected to be fiercely contested, the Wagholi arena is set to host unforgettable clashes as Maharashtra awaits its next wrestling champion.
