A woman doctor in Satara, Maharashtra, died by suicide, leaving a note accusing PSI Gopal Badne of repeated sexual assault. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and led to his suspension.
Pune, October 24, 2025 – In a tragic incident in Satara district, a woman doctor employed at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital died by suicide on the night of October 23, 2025. Prior to her death, she wrote a note on her left palm, accusing Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Gopal Badne of raping her four times over the past five months. She also alleged mental harassment by another officer, Prashant Banka
The victim had previously reported these allegations in a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police in June 2025, naming PSI Badne, Sub-Divisional Police Inspector Patil, and Assistant Police Inspector Ladputre. She sought legal action against them, stating she was under extreme stress.
Following the suicide, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered an immediate suspension of PSI Gopal Badne. The police have initiated a manhunt for both Badne and Bankar, who are currently absconding.
The incident has ignited a political uproar in Maharashtra. Women’s rights activists and opposition leaders are demanding swift justice and accountability. The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has also taken cognizance of the matter.
This case highlights the urgent need for stringent measures to protect women in the workplace and ensure accountability for those in positions of power.
