Maharashtra
Ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, the Maharashtra government has approved extensive road, bridge, water and digital projects, aiming for completion by March 2027.
Nashik | November 14, 2025: The Maharashtra government has laid out a comprehensive infrastructure plan for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, to be held in and around Trimbakeshwar and Nashik. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed rapid progress on road widening, bridge construction, water-supply enhancement and the deployment of advanced technology for crowd and traffic management.
Key works include widening the NashikâTrimbakeshwar corridor to six lanes (or 24 metres width) and construction of the long-pending Nashik Ring Road. The central government has cleared proposals of around âš4,000 crore for major highways alone. Officials say that the overall development plan spans multiple departments and amounts to several thousands of crores with a deadline for completion by March 2027.

Special focus is being placed on streamlining access for millions of devotees expected during the Kumbh. Works underway include new bridges on the Godavari river, enhanced ghats and bathing ponds at Trimbakeshwar to manage the influx; estimates suggest an allocation of âš144 crore for fresh weirs and separate teerths (sacred ponds) for pilgrims.
On the technology front, the state is deploying artificial-intelligence and drone-based monitoring for real-time tracking of crowds, vehicle movements and safety-hazards. CM Fadnavis stated that the Mela must become a âworld-classâ event where devotion meets modern infrastructure.

Water-supply and sanitation are also prioritized. Plans include mobile toilets, sewage-treatment upgrades and ensuring clean Godavari waters for the holy bathing days. The ambition is not only to cater to traditional needs, but to position the region as a global spiritual-tourism destination.
With just under two years to go before the core Amrit Snan bathing events, the government has emphasized that all tenders, land-acquisition, and execution must be accelerated and no major project should remain unfinished when the festival begins.
