IMD issues yellow alert for Maharashtra; intermittent rain likely to continue till November 5. Citizens and farmers urged to stay alert.

Pune | October 30, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather alert for several districts across Maharashtra, forecasting continued rainfall till November 5. This unusual extension of wet weather comes weeks after the typical monsoon withdrawal period, with weather systems from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal sustaining moisture over the state.

According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers will continue in Konkan, Vidarbha, and Marathwada regions. Districts such as Ratnagiri, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Amravati are expected to experience thundercloud development and occasional lightning activity.

Meteorologists attribute the prolonged spell to a weak cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea coupled with a moisture-laden trough extending into central India. These conditions have delayed the onset of drier weather, keeping skies cloudy and humidity levels high across the state.

Coastal areas have also been cautioned about rough sea conditions and strong wind activity. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid deep-sea ventures and urged local bodies to monitor coastal safety. In addition, commuters in urban areas have been warned about waterlogging and reduced visibility, particularly during early mornings and late evenings.

Farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada have been told to protect harvested crops and prepare for possible water stagnation in low-lying fields. Experts suggest using elevated storage facilities and covering grain stocks to prevent spoilage during the intermittent rainfall phase.

Though rainfall intensity is expected to reduce gradually after November 1, sporadic showers may continue until November 5. The IMD has indicated that the weather pattern may stabilize afterward as pressure systems weaken and north-easterly winds strengthen.

Environmental observers have pointed out that this extended rainfall may bring mixed outcomes — replenishing groundwater reserves while simultaneously delaying Rabi sowing in some districts. However, they also caution that excess soil moisture could affect crop germination if the rain persists beyond early November.

In Mumbai and Pune, the skies are likely to remain partly cloudy with light showers over the next few days. Interior districts might experience short, intense bursts of rain accompanied by thunder. Residents have been urged to monitor daily IMD updates and plan travel accordingly.
