Major Change for Pune Rail Passengers: Two Trains Now Terminate at Hadapsar
Hadapsar
Railway operations change: Two Pune-bound trains will now terminate and originate at Hadapsar instead of Pune Junction, impacting early-morning commuters.
Pune|27 January,2026: Rail passengers travelling to and from Pune will need to adjust their plans following a significant operational change in train services, as two Pune-bound trains have been re-routed to terminate at Hadapsar Railway Station instead of Pune Junction. The revised arrangement came into effect from January 26, altering arrival and departure points for hundreds of daily commuters, particularly those travelling during early morning hours.
Under the new schedule, the Hazur Sahib Nanded–Pune Express will no longer proceed to Pune Junction and will instead conclude its journey at Hadapsar. The train arrives in the early hours, which has raised concerns among passengers about last-mile connectivity, as public transport options such as city buses are limited during pre-dawn hours. While a connecting suburban service is available for passengers wishing to reach Pune Junction, the additional waiting time has emerged as a point of inconvenience for long-distance travellers.

In addition, the Pune–Harangul–Pune Express has also been reassigned to operate from Hadapsar as its originating and terminating station. With both trains now using Hadapsar as their operational endpoint, passengers accustomed to alighting at Pune Junction will need to make alternative arrangements for onward travel, including autos, cabs, or connecting rail services.
The decision to shift select trains to Hadapsar is part of a broader effort to decongest Pune Junction, which has been facing increasing pressure due to rising passenger volumes and limited platform availability. By redistributing train traffic to suburban terminals like Hadapsar, railway authorities aim to improve operational efficiency, enhance punctuality, and accommodate future services without overwhelming the city’s primary railway hub.
However, the move has sparked mixed reactions from commuters. Many passengers have welcomed the long-term vision of decentralising rail operations but have also highlighted immediate challenges, particularly the lack of affordable and frequent public transport options from Hadapsar during early morning and late-night hours. For elderly passengers, women travellers, and those unfamiliar with the area, arranging last-mile connectivity can be both costly and stressful.
Hadapsar Railway Station has been undergoing infrastructure upgrades to function as a satellite terminal for Pune. Improvements include expanded platforms, upgraded tracks, and enhanced passenger facilities, positioning the station to handle additional train services in the future. Authorities believe that once fully operational, the station will play a crucial role in managing Pune’s growing rail traffic and improving overall commuter experience.
In conclusion, while the termination of two Pune-bound trains at Hadapsar marks an important step towards easing congestion at Pune Junction, the transition underscores the need for better integration between rail services and city transport systems. Passengers are advised to check train schedules carefully and plan their onward journey in advance to avoid inconvenience during the initial phase of implementation.
