A major fire erupted in two warehouses in Pimple Gurav, Pune, allegedly due to a short circuit. Firefighters controlled the blaze; no casualties reported.

Pune | 16 February, 2026- A massive fire broke out in two warehouses in the Pimple Gurav area of Pune on Sunday afternoon, causing extensive property damage and triggering a swift emergency response. The incident occurred behind Chandrabhaga Lawns in the rapidly developing locality, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and drawing the attention of nearby residents and business owners.

According to preliminary findings, the blaze is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. The warehouses reportedly stored decorative materials and wooden plywood—highly combustible items that allowed the fire to spread rapidly within minutes. Fire officials stated that once the flames caught hold of the wooden stock, the intensity increased significantly, making containment efforts more challenging.

Multiple fire engines were rushed to the spot by the Pimpri-Chinchwad civic fire department. Firefighters battled heavy smoke and intense heat for several hours before bringing the blaze under control. Their timely intervention prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent commercial establishments and nearby residential structures. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported, as the warehouses were unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the short circuit and to assess whether the warehouses were compliant with fire safety norms. Electrical faults remain one of the leading causes of commercial fires in India, particularly in storage facilities where outdated wiring, overloaded circuits, or lack of maintenance can lead to catastrophic incidents.

Officials indicated that an inspection of the electrical systems and fire safety infrastructure at the affected site will be conducted. They will also evaluate whether adequate preventive measures such as fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and emergency exits were in place. The total financial loss is yet to be officially estimated, but early indications suggest substantial damage to both the structure and stored inventory.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over fire safety compliance in rapidly expanding urban pockets like Pimple Gurav. With increasing commercial activity and warehouse development in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region, experts stress the need for regular safety audits and strict adherence to fire prevention guidelines. Warehouses storing flammable goods, especially wood-based materials and decorative supplies, are considered high-risk zones and require enhanced precautionary measures.

Residents in the area reported seeing large clouds of smoke rising from the site around noon, prompting panic in the vicinity. Traffic movement was briefly affected as emergency vehicles navigated narrow lanes to reach the location. Civic officials have assured the public that a comprehensive safety review will be conducted in nearby industrial and storage facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Fire safety experts emphasize that short circuits often result from faulty wiring, loose connections, or overloading of electrical equipment. Regular inspection by certified electricians, installation of circuit breakers, and proper grounding systems can significantly reduce such risks. In commercial establishments, compliance with municipal fire regulations is not only mandatory but critical for safeguarding lives and property.
