Commuters will soon be able to book metro tickets via the Uber app, with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stating that the integration will strengthen urban transport connectivity.

Mumbai | March 19, 2026: In a move aimed at enhancing seamless urban mobility, metro commuters will now be able to book tickets directly through the Uber app. The initiative is expected to simplify travel by integrating different modes of transport on a single digital platform.

Announcing the development, Devendra Fadnavis said the step will significantly improve last-mile connectivity and make commuting more convenient for citizens. He noted that such digital integrations are crucial for building efficient and user-friendly urban transport systems.

With this feature, users can plan their journeys more effectively by combining ride-hailing services with metro travel. The integration is expected to help commuters book metro tickets in advance, reducing waiting time at stations and encouraging the use of public transport.

Officials said the initiative is part of a broader push toward creating a unified mobility ecosystem, where multiple transport services—such as metro, cabs and other public transit options—are interconnected through digital platforms.

The move is also likely to benefit daily commuters in cities like Mumbai and Pune, where traffic congestion remains a major concern. By making metro access easier and more integrated with first- and last-mile transport options, authorities aim to promote a shift toward public transportation.

Transport experts believe that such collaborations between technology platforms and public transit systems can play a key role in improving urban mobility. Integrating ticketing systems into widely used apps like Uber is expected to enhance convenience and increase metro ridership.

The feature is expected to roll out in phases, with further enhancements and integrations likely in the future. Authorities have indicated that similar initiatives may be introduced across other transport networks to create a more connected and efficient commuting experience.

With this step, the state government aims to leverage technology to modernise urban transport and provide commuters with a smoother, more accessible travel experience.
