Minister Chandrakant Patil Directs Police to Take Action in Gautami Patil Car Accident Case

Pune, October 4, 2025 — Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has directly intervened in the car accident case involving dancer Gautami Patil, instructing Pune police to take strict action against those responsible. The incident occurred on the morning of September 30, 2025, near Vadgaon Bridge in Pune, when a vehicle registered under Gautami Patil’s name reportedly collided with a rickshaw, causing serious injuries to the driver, identified as Margale. The injured rickshaw driver is currently undergoing treatment at Dinanath Hospital.
Following the incident, the victim’s family approached Minister Patil during a public grievance session, seeking assistance and demanding justice. In response, Minister Patil contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sambhaji Patil to inquire about the status of the investigation and to emphasize the need for stringent action. According to reports, Minister Patil questioned whether Gautami Patil should be arrested, stating, “Should we arrest Gautami Patil or not?” He further instructed the police to seize the vehicle involved in the accident and issue a notice to Gautami Patil.
Pune police have since issued a notice to Gautami Patil, summoning her for questioning in connection with the incident. However, it has been clarified that Gautami Patil was not present in the vehicle at the time of the accident; her driver was operating the car. The police are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The case has attracted significant attention, with political leaders and activists calling for accountability. Opposition leaders have criticized Minister Patil for his direct involvement in the police investigation, raising concerns about potential political pressure on law enforcement agencies. They have also questioned his silence on other recent incidents, such as the Kothrud firing case involving gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, suggesting a selective approach to addressing public safety issues.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on determining the circumstances leading to the accident and ensuring that appropriate legal actions are taken. The incident has sparked debates about the role of political figures in influencing police investigations and the need for transparency and accountability in such matters.
