Minister Sanjay Shirsat Ends Farmer’s Hunger Strike by Inviting Him to His Bungalow

Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat concluded a farmer’s hunger strike for loan waiver by inviting him to his bungalow, bypassing the protest site. The incident has sparked political controversy.
Aurangabad, October 20, 2025- In a recent incident in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district, Minister Sanjay Shirsat has come under scrutiny for his unconventional approach to ending a farmer’s hunger strike. The protest, initiated on October 10 by farmer Sandeep Vijaykumar Sethi in front of the Kannad Tehsil Office, was demanding a complete loan waiver for farmers affected by recent floods. Despite repeated appeals from administrative officials, Sethi refused to end his protest unless the Guardian Minister personally visited the site.
However, instead of visiting the protest location, Minister Shirsat invited Sethi to his bungalow, offering him water and requesting him to call off the hunger strike. This move has sparked a political controversy, with critics accusing the minister of neglecting the seriousness of the farmer’s plight and undermining the protest’s significance.
Sandeep Sethi, who had been fasting for over a week, expressed his frustration with the government’s inaction. “I had no choice but to resort to this extreme measure to draw attention to our demands,” Sethi stated. “The minister’s invitation to his residence instead of addressing us at the protest site feels like an attempt to trivialize our struggle.”
The incident has ignited discussions across the state, with opposition parties criticizing the government’s handling of farmer issues. They argue that such actions reflect a lack of genuine concern for the agricultural community’s challenges.
Minister Shirsat, a member of the Shiv Sena party, has yet to publicly address the criticism. His approach to resolving the hunger strike has raised questions about the government’s commitment to addressing farmers’ concerns in a meaningful way.
This event highlights the ongoing tensions between the state’s political leadership and the farming community, emphasizing the need for more direct and empathetic engagement with the issues affecting rural Maharashtra.
