In a thrilling late-night bout on the banks of the Krishna, Mirza Iran outclassed Shera Gujjar on points to win the prestigious Shri Chhatrapati Kesari title amid roaring cheers from thousands of wrestling fans.

Sangli | 02 March, 2026: A packed crowd witnessed high-voltage wrestling action as Iran’s Mirza emerged victorious against India’s powerhouse Shera Gujjar to claim the coveted Shri Chhatrapati Kesari title at the government ghat in Sangli.

The much-anticipated India versus Iran bout began around 11:15 pm, drawing thousands of wrestling enthusiasts to the Krishna riverbank arena. Shera Gujjar, weighing 165 kg and popularly known as “Bharat Kesari,” faced a formidable challenge from world champion Mirza. For nearly 25 minutes, neither wrestler allowed his knees to touch the ground, displaying immense strength and tactical brilliance.

Mirza attempted a decisive move in the fifth minute, but Shera’s raw power forced him out of bounds twice. With no clear fall even after half an hour, referee and Double Maharashtra Kesari Chandrhar Patil declared the match would be decided on points. Seizing the opportunity, Mirza turned aggressive, gained control and secured crucial points to seal the contest.

As he was declared winner, the arena erupted in applause and whistles. The title was presented to Mirza at the hands of Yuvraj Adityaraje of the Sangli royal family. In the women’s category, Sonali Mandalik defeated Maharashtra Kesari Pratiksha Bagdi in a gripping encounter. After an intense 40-minute contest, Sonali secured victory through a coin toss decision to win the Rajmata Jijau Kesari title
