Delhi | 23 March, 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has underlined the evolving nature of modern warfare, stating that conflicts today extend far beyond traditional battlefields and require a coordinated effort between a strong military and prepared citizens.
Virtually addressing the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Sainik School Ghorakhal in Uttarakhand, Singh noted that national security now encompasses economic stability, digital infrastructure, energy resources, and food security. He emphasized that threats can emerge through cyber, space, and information warfare, making vigilance essential for every citizen.

Highlighting the government’s efforts under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the Defence Minister said the armed forces are being equipped with advanced technologies. However, he added that the role of citizens, especially youth, remains equally critical in strengthening national resilience.
Referring to the concept of VUCA, Singh encouraged students to adopt Vision, Understanding, Courage, and Adaptability to effectively deal with modern challenges. He stressed that discipline and mental strength are key qualities required to navigate uncertain and complex global scenarios.The minister also pointed to policy initiatives aimed at nation-building, including the plan to establish 100 new Sainik Schools under the public-private partnership model. Additionally, the expansion of the National Cadet Corps intake from 17 lakh to 20 lakh cadets was highlighted as a significant step.
