Residents accuse PMC of shielding a politician–contractor nexus behind a massive illegal hoarding near Axis Bank ATM, demanding FIRs, removal, and investigation into revenue loss and safety violations.

Pune | November 11, 2025: Anger is growing among residents of Mohammadwadi and NIBM Annexe after a giant illegal hoarding appeared on the public footpath near SM Ghule Circle and the Axis Bank ATM. Locals are demanding immediate FIRs against those responsible, alleging that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), contractors, and political figures are jointly protecting the structure.

According to a letter issued on September 25, 2025, by the PMC Executive Engineer to the Assistant Commissioner (Hadapsar Regional Office), the hoarding was found obstructing the footpath, blocking civic work, and standing on public land without legal permission. Despite this official confirmation, activists say no action has been taken.

Residents claim the hoarding earns between ₹2 to ₹4 lakh every month in illegal advertising revenue while causing civic loss and endangering pedestrians. They describe it as a clear case of “theft of public land and government revenue.”

Civic rights activist Ashok Mehendale said, “The PMC has documentary proof, yet the structure stands. This is not negligence it’s complicity. FIRs under IPC Sections 336 and 338 are mandatory.”
BJP activist Jaymala Dhankikar added that citizens are paying taxes while illegal hoardings generate private profit, asking why PMC officials continue to look away.
Residents like Manjiri Kulkarni and Sameer Desai stressed the hoarding poses danger to pedestrians, demanding its immediate removal and FIRs against all responsible parties.

Legal experts say the case violates multiple laws from the BPMC Act and IPC to the Electricity Act making criminal proceedings unavoidable. Activists also want the PMC to disclose names of officials who allowed or ignored the illegal installation.

“The hoarding mafia earns lakhs from public land while citizens risk their lives. Enough is enough,” residents said, warning of protests if swift action isn’t taken.
