To manage the surge in travel during the summer holidays, MSRTC plans to operate 450 additional buses from Pune, ensuring smoother connectivity across major routes.

Pune | March 20, 2026: In anticipation of heavy passenger traffic during the upcoming summer vacation period, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has announced plans to deploy around 450 additional buses from Pune division.

Officials said the decision has been taken to accommodate the seasonal spike in travel demand, as thousands of passengers are expected to head towards their native places and popular tourist destinations during the holidays. The additional buses will operate on high-demand routes across Maharashtra and neighbouring states.

The extra services are likely to be introduced gradually, with advance booking facilities being made available for passengers. Authorities have indicated that the move aims to reduce overcrowding at bus depots and provide more travel options during peak periods.

MSRTC traditionally operates additional services during major travel seasons such as summer vacations, festivals and long weekends to manage increased passenger flow. In previous years, the corporation has run hundreds of extra trips daily between April and June to cater to holiday demand.

Officials from the Pune division stated that routes connecting Konkan, Marathwada and western Maharashtra are expected to witness particularly high demand. Special focus will also be given to long-distance services, where passenger load typically increases significantly during vacations.

The move is part of MSRTC’s broader efforts to strengthen public transport capacity and improve passenger convenience. With rising travel demand, the transport body has been taking steps to expand its fleet and introduce additional services during peak periods.

Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and utilise online booking platforms to secure seats, as demand is expected to remain high throughout the vacation season.

Authorities also assured that adequate staff and operational arrangements will be in place to ensure smooth functioning of services and minimise delays.

With the deployment of these additional buses, MSRTC aims to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
