Multi‑vehicle collision near Navale Bridge on Pune-Satara Highway injures 3–4 people and snarls traffic; police investigate causes as rescue operations continue
Pune | 19 February, 2026- A multi‑vehicle crash occurred near the Navale Bridge on the Pune–Satara Highway on Wednesday afternoon, leaving 3–4 people injured and causing severe traffic disruption on one of the busiest stretches connecting Pune and Satara. The collision involved five to six vehicles in quick succession, including private cars, commercial vehicles, and two-wheelers. The impact caused some vehicles to collide with the central divider, while others were severely damaged, prompting immediate intervention by traffic police and rescue teams. Commuters reported being stranded for hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.

The crash occurred during peak travel hours, and eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as drivers attempted to avoid collisions, resulting in a chain reaction. Injured individuals were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, with most suffering minor injuries such as bruises and cuts. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities, and authorities confirmed that the situation was under control. Videos shared by commuters showed long queues of vehicles, damaged bumpers, and emergency responders directing traffic to safe zones.
The Navale Bridge stretch has a history of accidents, particularly in areas with steep gradients and high-speed traffic. This section of the Pune–Satara Highway has been identified as a high-risk zone, prompting calls for improved road design, additional safety barriers, and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. Police are investigating the precise cause of the collision, including whether speed, driver error, or sudden braking contributed to the chain reaction. They are interviewing drivers and reconstructing vehicle movements to determine the sequence of events.

The collision caused traffic congestion for several hours, particularly for vehicles entering Pune from the Satara direction. Police had to divert and regulate traffic while the crash site was cleared, but delays persisted due to the high volume of vehicles. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise extra caution on accident-prone stretches such as Navale Bridge, especially during peak hours or adverse weather conditions. The incident highlights ongoing road safety challenges on heavily trafficked highway segments and underscores the need for vigilance, better infrastructure, and effective traffic management to prevent similar accidents in the future.
