Mumbai Police Seek Inquiry into UK-Based Doctor for Alleged Online Defamation Against PM Modi
Mumbai
Mumbai police have claimed in an affidavit submitted to the High Court that Dr. Sangram Patil, a UK-based doctor and YouTuber, may be part of a larger, organized scheme aimed at defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi through objectionable and provocative content online. The police have requested that Patil be interrogated regarding these allegations

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India | February 07, 2026: Dr. Patil, a foreign national, entered India on a tourist visa. Before arriving in the country, he allegedly posted content online that the police describe as defamatory and offensive toward the Prime Minister. In their affidavit, the authorities raised questions about why such content was published and suggested that these actions could be part of a coordinated effort to tarnish the image of a public figure and disturb public order.

The police pointed out that the alleged acts could not be dismissed as isolated incidents, citing the possibility of a larger, organized plan behind the dissemination of such material. Given this, they argued that questioning Patil is necessary to ensure accountability.

Authorities further noted that since Patil has already returned to the UK, summoning him for interrogation later could prove difficult, reinforcing the need for immediate investigation during his stay in India.
