Mumbai Residents Warned As 5-Metre Tides Expected; Authorities Urge Avoiding Beaches
Mumbai is likely to witness unusually high tides — up to five metres — between December 4 and 7. Civic authorities have urged people to stay away from beaches and coastal zones during this alert period.
Mumbai | December 4, 2025: The city has been placed under a high-tide alert for the next few days, as waves along the Arabian Sea coast are forecast to reach dangerous heights. The municipal corporation’s disaster management unit has issued a public advisory asking residents and visitors to stay away from the shoreline from December 4 to 7, when tide heights are expected to exceed 4.5 metres — peaking around 5 metres on some days.
Officials have flagged Thursday night at 11:52 p.m. when tides may hit 4.96 metres, and the highest surge is expected soon after midnight on December 6, when waves could reach as high as 5.03 metres. Further high tides are forecast for early hours of December 7, heightening risk for those near the sea.
The warning comes at a sensitive time, with many people expected to visit coastal areas — especially shorelines near popular public gathering sites. Authorities have urged visitors to avoid seafront promenades, beaches, and low-lying coastal stretches during the high-tide window, as strong surges and waves pose serious danger.
To ensure public safety, disaster teams are on alert. Residents are advised to adhere strictly to safety warnings, avoid unnecessary trips to the coast, and stay informed through official bulletins. The advisory aims to prevent accidents, drownings or damage to property, especially in crowded coastal zones.
