Mumbai–Nanded Vande Bharat Express Halts for 40 Minutes After Buffalo Collision Near Jalna

Jalna|December 11, 2025:The Mumbai–Nanded Vande Bharat Express met with an unexpected delay on Tuesday evening after it collided with a buffalo near Mukteshwar lake, close to Jalna. The impact caused the train to stop for approximately 40 minutes while railway staff assessed the damage.

The incident occurred as the express was nearing Jalna station. According to railway sources, the buffalo suddenly entered the tracks, and the high-speed train struck the animal, damaging the aerodynamic nose section. No passengers were injured and there was no significant harm reported beyond the minor impact to the train’s front.

Railway officials later confirmed that following a quick inspection and clearance, the train resumed its journey toward Nanded after the half-hour delay. The authorities also emphasized that such incidents underscore the urgent need for improved cattle deterrent measures along rail corridors, especially in rural and semi‑urban zones.

This is not the first time the Vande Bharat Express has faced such disruptions due to cattle incursions. Previous incidents in Maharashtra and Gujarat have seen similar collisions with cows or buffaloes, causing delays and minor damages to the train’s front‑end.

Local residents and passengers voiced concerns over safety, urging railway authorities to install better fencing or cattle‑guard systems near vulnerable track segments. Some passengers expressed annoyance over the sudden halt, but were appreciative of the railway staff’s prompt response and smooth resumption of the journey.With rising instances of stray animals on railway tracks, this incident may reignite public debate on infrastructure upgrades and preventive measures along busy routes.
