The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has issued notice to Gondwana Club and Nagpur Police after Maria Chang alleged she was forcibly removed from a café she legally occupied under a valid agreement

Nagpur | 10 February, 2026: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has issued notices to Gondwana Club and the Nagpur Police in connection with the alleged illegal takeover of a café premises at the club.

The court was hearing a criminal writ petition filed by Maria Chang, who claimed that she was forcibly dispossessed from the café despite being in lawful possession under a valid agreement.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Anil L. Pansare and Justice Nivedita P. Mehta allowed Gondwana Club to be added as a respondent and directed that notices be served within two weeks. The petitioner also accused officials from Gittikhadan Police Station of removing her staff without any judicial order or proceedings under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

The court has permitted the filing of additional documents, and further hearings will take place after service of notice on the private respondent. The matter continues to highlight issues of unlawful dispossession and the need for judicial oversight in such disputes.
