Nagpur
Nagpur’s winter session begins December 8, covering supplementary budget demands, key bills, and Fadnavis’ speech book release. Opposition leaders urge appointment of Leaders of the Opposition in both Houses.
Nagpur | December 04, 2025: The Maharashtra legislature is set to convene its winter session in Nagpur from December 8 to December 14. Work will continue even on the weekend, and the session will officially conclude on the seventh day.
Given the ongoing Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad elections, ruling and opposition parties have reportedly agreed on a short, focused session. The Legislative Business Advisory Committee, which had faced multiple delays due to election schedules, met at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday to finalize the legislative agenda and working hours for both the Assembly and the Council.
On the opening day, the government will present the supplementary demands for the fiscal year 2025–26. A condolence motion will also be observed to honor the late Rahuri MLA and former Minister of State, Shivajirao Kardile. During the session, both Houses will consider proposals from government and opposition benches alongside key bills pending approval.
A key highlight will be the release of a book compiling Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ speech delivered on March 26, 2025, during the discussion marking the Amrit Mahotsav of India’s Constitution. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Parliamentary Training Centre prepared the compilation, which will be released by Governor Acharya Devvrat on December 9, according to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.
Senior leaders attending Wednesday’s meeting included Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde, Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with key ministers, MLAs, and officials.
The session also rekindled discussion over the vacant Leader of the Opposition positions in both Houses. Uddhav Sena leader Bhaskar Jadhav emphasized that constitutional provisions require these posts to be filled and called on the government to appoint opposition leaders during the session.
