Indian Railways is launching 11 new trains- including a Vande Bharat Sleeper and multiple Amrit Bharat Express services – to boost connectivity across key regions.

January 14, 2026 | Pune: Indian Railways is preparing for a major expansion of its passenger services with the introduction of 11 new trains across the country, marking another significant step toward modernising rail travel in India. The upcoming rollout includes a mix of premium, semi-premium, and affordable services, featuring the much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper train, multiple Amrit Bharat Express trains, and additional Superfast Express services. This initiative aims to improve long-distance connectivity, reduce travel time, and offer enhanced comfort to passengers across regions.

One of the most notable additions is India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, designed specifically for overnight journeys on long routes. Unlike the existing Vande Bharat chair-car services, the sleeper version will cater to passengers travelling across states during night hours, combining high speed with modern amenities. Equipped with advanced safety systems, contemporary interiors, and faster acceleration, the Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to redefine long-distance rail travel, particularly on busy corridors connecting eastern and northeastern India.

Alongside this premium offering, eight new Amrit Bharat Express trains are set to be introduced on key inter-state routes. These trains are positioned as a cost-effective alternative for passengers seeking better facilities than conventional mail or express trains, while remaining affordable. The Amrit Bharat Express services will connect major cities across north, east, central, and south India, strengthening links between metro regions and emerging urban centres.

The Amrit Bharat trains are designed with upgraded general and sleeper coaches, improved seating arrangements, modern toilets, and enhanced passenger safety features. Railway planners believe these services will play a crucial role in bridging connectivity gaps, especially for passengers travelling on long routes where demand is high but premium options may not be accessible to all.

In addition to the Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services, the plan also includes two new Superfast Express trains that will connect eastern India with southern states. These trains are expected to benefit both business travellers and families by offering faster journey times and improved scheduling on routes that see heavy passenger movement throughout the year.

Experts note that the introduction of these 11 trains reflects Indian Railways’ broader strategy of balancing speed, affordability, and network expansion. With passenger numbers steadily rising and demand for efficient long-distance travel growing, the new services are expected to ease congestion on existing routes while providing travellers with more choices.

From an economic perspective, improved rail connectivity is likely to support tourism, trade, and workforce mobility across regions. Faster and more reliable train services can significantly reduce dependence on road and air travel, particularly for long-distance journeys where rail remains the most economical option for millions of Indians.

In conclusion, the launch of 11 new trains — including the Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat Express services — represents a major boost to India’s rail infrastructure. As these services become operational, passengers can expect better comfort, wider connectivity, and more efficient travel options, reinforcing the railways’ role as the backbone of the nation’s transport system.
