The National Defence Academy has rolled out a new curriculum under NEP 2020, integrating emerging technologies like AI and drones, while planning a credit-based system for academic and training flexibility
Pune | 19 March, 2026: The National Defence Academy (NDA) has introduced a revamped curriculum in line with the National Education Policy 2020, incorporating emerging technology-driven subjects to prepare cadets for modern warfare challenges.
NDA Commandant Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi stated that the updated syllabus includes foundational exposure to areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and drone technology, reflecting the growing role of advanced systems in defence strategies. The academy also plans to implement a credit-based structure, enabling cadets to earn academic credits for physical training and other activities.

Officials noted that this system would offer flexibility, allowing cadets who exit the academy mid-way to transition smoothly into other educational institutions using accumulated credits.
Meanwhile, NDA is hosting the prestigious inter-academy sports event ‘Sabiki Cup’ from March 18 to 21, featuring participation from 429 cadets across premier defence institutions, including the Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Officers Training Academies in Chennai and Gaya. Notably, 98 Women cadets are participating in the competition for the first time.

The event includes a range of sports such as cross-country, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, tennis, and squash, promoting physical excellence alongside academic growth.
Addressing another key aspect, Jaggi highlighted the need for more women trainers at the academy, especially for physical training. While women cadets have shown strong performance comparable to their male counterparts, the demand for dedicated female instructors has been formally raised with authorities.
