Pune’s draft voter list has triggered over 9,300 objections in just twelve days, raising concerns about duplicate names, shifted voters and ward-wise errors ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.

Pune | December 3, 2025: Pune’s draft electoral roll has come under intense public scrutiny after more than 9,300 objections were submitted within twelve days of its release. The Pune Municipal Corporation received a total of 9,370 complaints, with citizens and political groups highlighting errors ranging from duplicate entries to mismatched ward allocations. The Sinhagad Road Ward Office alone accounted for 3,640 objections, the highest among all ward offices.

According to the draft roll, Pune currently has 35.51 lakh eligible voters. However, officials have identified more than 3 lakh duplicate names, prompting a comprehensive verification process. Representatives from various political parties, along with several citizens’ groups, have demanded immediate corrections to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The State Election Commission has already issued ward-wise and polling station-wise rolls, revealing that over ten wards now have more than one lakh registered voters each. These high-density wards pose additional challenges for verification teams, who are working to cross-check entries and resolve discrepancies before the final list is notified.

Throughout the city, citizens have been visiting ward offices to report issues such as repeated names, voters who have shifted residence, and rural entries mistakenly included in the urban list. Objections and suggestions were accepted until December 3, with PMC deploying teams across its regional offices to manage the heavy inflow of complaints.

Meanwhile, the sale of draft voter lists has generated administrative revenue of 16,06,333 rupees over the past two weeks, as permitted under Election Commission norms. With verification now in full swing, officials say the final electoral roll will be released ahead of the municipal elections, assuring voters that the process will remain transparent and accurate.
