Pune | March 31, 2026: Passport services for Pune residents are set to become faster and more convenient with the launch of a new Passport Seva Kendra at Baner-Pashan Link Road. The new facility, located in the Montclair building, has officially replaced the earlier centre operating from Mundhwa, aiming to reduce delays and improve overall service efficiency. Officials said the shift was necessary due to the sharp rise in passport applications in Pune and surrounding regions. The Mundhwa centre had limited infrastructure and could process only around 600 to 800 applications per day. With the new setup at Baner, the daily processing capacity has been increased to nearly 1,800 applications, offering major relief to citizens who had been facing long appointment waiting periods.

Regional Passport Officer Dr. Vinod Gaikwad, addressing a press briefing, stated that the growing industrial and corporate expansion in Pune, including the arrival of global capability centres and international companies, has led to a significant rise in passport demand. He noted that the Mundhwa centre had become insufficient to handle the increasing workload, while the distance also posed challenges for applicants from IT hubs such as Hinjawadi and nearby areas. To ensure smoother processing, the passport office has strengthened its verification mechanism and increased staff involved in preliminary scrutiny. However, officials pointed out that many applications continue to face rejection due to incomplete documentation and errors found during verification. Authorities urged applicants to ensure accurate paperwork before submission to avoid delays.

The passport office has also reinforced security measures by adopting advanced technology. The e-passport system has been strengthened with embedded RFID chips that securely store encrypted personal and biometric information, making immigration procedures faster and more secure. Citizens have been advised to attend the new centre strictly as per their appointment schedule.
