March 28, 2026 | New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity. The project is expected to transform travel and logistics across the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas. The newly launched airport is positioned as Delhi-NCR’s second international aviation hub after Indira Gandhi International Airport, aimed at easing congestion and accommodating rising passenger demand. Officials have described it as a major gateway that will enhance both domestic and international travel capacity.

Developed at a cost of over ₹11,000 crore for its first phase, the airport is designed to handle around 12 million passengers annually, with expansion plans set to significantly increase capacity in the coming years. The long-term project envisions transforming Jewar into a major aviation hub for North India. The airport also features a dedicated cargo and logistics ecosystem, which is expected to boost trade and economic activity in the region. Authorities highlighted its multi-modal connectivity, integrating road, rail and future transit systems to improve accessibility and reduce travel time.

Built with a focus on sustainability, the facility incorporates eco-friendly design elements such as natural lighting, rainwater harvesting and renewable energy use, aligning with long-term environmental goals. The inauguration ceremony was conducted under tight security arrangements, with thousands of personnel deployed to ensure safety during the high-profile event. The launch of the Noida International Airport is expected to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities and strengthen India’s position as a growing global aviation hub.
