PM Narendra Modi will review progress of the Bullet Train project in Surat, where major construction milestones have been achieved. The Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor promises faster travel, economic growth and modern passenger facilities.
New Delhi| November 15,2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat on 15 November to review the country’s first high-speed rail project. Around 10 a.m., he inspected the under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat and take stock of progress on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), a project seen as a major leap in India’s transport infrastructure.
The MAHSR runs about 508 kilometres, including 352 kilometres across Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 156 kilometres in Maharashtra. Once operational, it will connect key cities such as Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. The corridor is expected to reshape inter-city travel, improve mobility, and support long-term regional development.

Engineers are building the project using international-grade systems to improve speed and safety. Nearly 85 percent of the route, around 465 kilometres, is being constructed on elevated viaducts to reduce land impact and avoid disruptions. As of now, 326 kilometres of the viaduct have been completed, along with 17 of the planned 25 river bridges.
Once launched, the Bullet Train is expected to cut the Mumbai–Ahmedabad travel time to about two hours. Faster connectivity is projected to help businesses, boost tourism, and encourage investment in the regions along the route.

The 47-kilometre Surat–Bilimora stretch is among the most advanced sections of the project. Civil work and track-bed preparations are complete in this phase. The Surat station itself has been designed to reflect the city’s global diamond identity, blending modern engineering with a clean and functional layout.
Passengers will get spacious lounges, restrooms, and retail options at the station. The design also ensures smooth connectivity with the Surat Metro, city buses, and the existing rail network, allowing for quick movement across transport modes.
