The Pune civic body extends its Abhay Yojana deadline for property tax amnesty to March 15, offering defaulters extra time to clear dues with concessions.

Pune | 14 February, 2026- The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the Abhay Yojana property tax amnesty deadline to March 15, 2026, following requests from several corporators who noted that many property owners had yet to take advantage of the scheme. The extension aims to provide residents and businesses additional time to settle outstanding municipal dues while benefiting from concessions on interest and penalties.

The proposal for the extension was raised during a civic meeting, with representatives highlighting that the original deadline of February 15 might not be sufficient for all taxpayers. Extending the scheme by one month is expected to encourage more property owners to participate, boosting overall tax collections while easing the financial burden on residents.

The Abhay Yojana was launched to recover pending property tax arrears by offering substantial concessions. Taxpayers clearing their dues under the scheme can avoid paying full accumulated interest, making it financially easier to settle outstanding amounts. Prior to this, the scheme had already been extended once, reflecting its importance in strengthening the city’s revenue base.

Officials noted that while many property owners have taken advantage of the amnesty, a significant number still need time to arrange payments. The extension allows them to benefit from interest and penalty waivers, which could significantly reduce their liabilities. This move is also expected to improve the civic body’s cash flow, funding essential services such as roads, water supply, sanitation, and public health projects.

Revenue from property tax forms a critical part of the PMC’s budget. Structured amnesty schemes like the Abhay Yojana not only recover overdue payments but also encourage long-term compliance. Authorities have urged taxpayers to review their accounts and settle dues promptly under the revised timeline to avoid additional penalties in the next fiscal cycle.

The extension aligns with the municipal corporation’s goal of balancing revenue collection with citizen relief. By offering a structured and clear amnesty period, the PMC hopes to reduce the stock of pending arrears and ensure a more consistent inflow of funds for ongoing city projects.
