PMC Budget Allocates ₹1,500 Crore For Roads, Flyovers, Missing Links; Two Major Tunnels Planned
Pune Municipal Corporation has earmarked ₹1,500 crore in its latest budget for roads, flyovers and connectivity projects, including two proposed tunnels aimed at easing congestion and improving citywide traffic movement.

March 11, 2026 | Pune The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a major infrastructure push in its latest civic budget, allocating nearly ₹1,500 crore for road development, flyovers and key connectivity projects across the city. The plan is aimed at addressing increasing traffic congestion and strengthening Pune’s rapidly expanding urban road network. According to civic officials, the funds will be used for the construction and improvement of several major roads, flyovers and missing link projects that are expected to streamline traffic flow in some of the city’s busiest areas. Authorities believe these initiatives will significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity between different parts of Pune.

Among the most notable proposals in the infrastructure plan are two major tunnel projects. The first tunnel is planned between Pashan and Kothrud, which is expected to improve connectivity between the western parts of the city and reduce congestion on existing arterial roads. The second proposed tunnel will connect Hingne Khurd and Taljai Chowk, offering an alternative route for commuters and helping divert heavy traffic away from crowded internal roads. In addition to the tunnel projects, the civic body has also proposed multiple flyovers, bridges and road widening works to address bottlenecks at key traffic junctions. These projects are part of PMC’s broader strategy to improve mobility and accommodate the increasing number of vehicles on city roads.

Officials say the infrastructure investment reflects the city administration’s focus on long-term urban planning and sustainable transport solutions. As Pune continues to grow as a major IT, education and industrial hub, improved road infrastructure is considered essential to support economic growth and daily commuting needs. The proposed projects are expected to be implemented in phases after necessary approvals, detailed project reports and funding allocations are finalised by the civic authorities
