PMC Clears Rs 203 Crore Plan For Flyover And Grade Separator To Ease Chandni Chowk–Bhugaon Traffic

PMC has approved a Rs 203 crore plan to build a flyover and grade separator on the Chandni Chowk–Bhugaon stretch. Tenders will begin after 80 percent land acquisition is completed.

Pune | December 4, 2025: With traffic jams becoming a daily struggle on the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon route, the Municipal Corporation has moved forward with a major infrastructure upgrade. A proposal to build a two-kilometer flyover and a grade separator on this busy stretch has received in-principle approval. The total estimated cost of the project stands at Rs 203 crore, and the tender process will begin once 80 percent of the required land is acquired, officials confirmed.

The approval was granted during the Municipal Corporation’s Estimate Committee meeting. According to Dinkar Gojare, Head of the Project Department, this corridor carries heavy traffic from Mulshi, Konkan, and the Pirangut industrial belt. Vehicles from densely populated areas like Bhugaon and Bhukum also pass through this route, causing severe congestion every morning and evening. Previous road widening efforts have not been able to match the rapid rise in vehicle volume.

The proposed flyover will extend from Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon and will include a 30-meter long, 70-meter wide bridge over the Ram River. Alongside this, a 430-meter grade separator at PVPIT College Chowk is planned, of which 120 meters will be RCC. This structure, 23.2 meters in width, is expected to cost Rs 27 crore. Two additional flyovers at Ambrosia Chowk and Patil Nagar Chowk, each 870 meters long, will require about Rs 82 crore.

Officials noted that the population of Bhugaon–Bhukum, currently estimated at one lakh, is projected to triple in the coming years. The Development Plan already marks this corridor as a 60-meter road, and the future PMRDA Ring Road will connect here before merging with the National Highway. Considering these factors, the Municipal Corporation views the flyover and grade separator as essential long-term solutions to prevent worsening congestion.
