PMC to Spend ₹243 Crore on Repairing 306 km of City Roads Under Infra Upgrade Plan

PMC plans to repair over 306 km of roads with a ₹243 crore budget, using advanced GIS mapping and smart monitoring systems to improve infrastructure before monsoon.
March 21 | Pune The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled an extensive infrastructure initiative, allocating ₹243 crore for the repair and maintenance of nearly 306 kilometres of roads across the city. The move is aimed at strengthening road conditions ahead of the monsoon while introducing technology-driven monitoring systems to ensure efficiency and accountability.

The project is based on a comprehensive survey conducted using advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. Through high-resolution mapping, the civic body identified critical road segments requiring immediate attention, including areas prone to potholes, surface damage, and structural deterioration. Officials stated that the data-driven approach will help prioritise repairs and streamline execution.
A key highlight of the initiative is the integration of smart surveillance tools. PMC plans to deploy AI-enabled cameras mounted on vehicles to capture real-time road conditions. These cameras will collect detailed visual data, allowing authorities to track ongoing repairs and identify new issues as they arise. The system is expected to enhance transparency and reduce delays in maintenance work.

The project follows earlier efforts by the civic administration to improve urban infrastructure through digital planning. By centralising data and adopting predictive maintenance strategies, PMC aims to minimise recurring road damage and optimise resource allocation. Civic officials emphasised that timely completion of the repairs is crucial, especially with the approaching monsoon season, which typically exacerbates road deterioration. The administration has instructed contractors to adhere to strict deadlines and quality standards. Experts believe that such technology-backed initiatives could significantly improve Pune’s road infrastructure if implemented effectively. The use of GIS mapping and AI monitoring is also seen as a step towards building a smarter and more resilient urban ecosystem
