Pune Municipal Corporation’s 2026-27 budget
Pune Municipal Corporation’s 2026-27 budget focuses on strengthening public healthcare with new cancer hospital, IVF services, upgraded hospitals and increased financial aid for critical treatments.
Pune | March 24, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation has announced an ambitious healthcare roadmap under its 2026-27 budget, introducing the “Nirogi Pune” vision aimed at making public healthcare more accessible, affordable and advanced for citizens.
The budget, presented by Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, places strong emphasis on strengthening existing medical infrastructure while introducing new specialised services. The initiative comes as part of a broader effort to cater to the growing healthcare demands of the city’s population.

Currently, the civic body operates 53 outpatient departments, 20 maternity homes, a 400-bed general hospital and an infectious diseases hospital. On average, nearly 12,000 outpatients and 300 inpatients receive treatment daily, with around 30 lakh citizens availing healthcare services annually. Additionally, about 8,500 deliveries are conducted each year at PMC-run maternity facilities, all of which offer free services to citizens.
To further enhance healthcare delivery, the civic body has decided to modernise and expand major hospitals such as Kamala Nehru Hospital and Annasaheb Magar Hospital. These upgrades aim to improve capacity and ensure better quality treatment for patients.

In a major step towards strengthening critical care, six maternity homes and five hospitals will be upgraded into multi-speciality facilities. These centres will be equipped with advanced Intensive Care Units (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and modern nursing services. Additionally, a 350-bed multi-speciality hospital is being developed at Warje on a sprawling 10,000 square metre area, with work already underway.
One of the most significant announcements is the establishment of the first municipal cancer hospital at Baner under a public-private partnership model. The facility will offer advanced treatments such as radiotherapy using linear accelerator technology at Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates, making cancer care more affordable for patients.

Further boosting diagnostic capabilities, a new MRI and CT scan centre will be set up in the Gangadham area. This is expected to significantly reduce the cost of expensive diagnostic tests, ensuring wider access to essential medical investigations.
The budget also introduces IVF (in vitro fertilisation) services at municipal maternity homes, providing affordable fertility treatments to couples facing infertility challenges. This move is expected to benefit economically weaker sections who otherwise struggle to afford such procedures in private hospitals.
In terms of financial support, the assistance limit for cancer and dialysis treatments has been increased to ₹3 lakh, offering relief to patients battling serious illnesses. Additionally, the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay accident insurance scheme will be restructured to improve its effectiveness and reach.

The Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College is also set for expansion, with its first MBBS batch graduating this year. Plans are underway to introduce postgraduate courses, a geriatric care centre, IVF facilities and a specialised care unit for children with disabilities. A 14-storey building will also be constructed at Naidu Hospital premises to accommodate student hostels and staff residences.
Officials believe that these initiatives will significantly improve the city’s public healthcare ecosystem, ensuring that quality medical services remain within reach for all sections of society. The “Nirogi Pune” vision is expected to play a crucial role in building a healthier and more resilient urban population.
