PMRDA to Build 10 New Roads to Boost Rural Connectivity

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority will construct ten new roads across four tehsils, improving transportation for farmers, industrial workers, and tourists while enhancing trade, employment, and infrastructure in rural areas

Pune| February 16, 2026:The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has announced the construction of ten new roads in Haveli, Maval, Shirur, and Khed tehsils to strengthen connectivity between urban and rural areas. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow, particularly near Pimpri-Chinchwad, while giving new momentum to agriculture and industrial zones. PMRDA expects these roads to create employment opportunities and promote tourism in the region.

Official tenders for the project have already been issued, and authorities expect administrative approvals to be completed within a week, after which contractors will begin work. Under the project, contractors will maintain the roads for ten years, ensuring durability and consistent infrastructure management. The existing roads in these tehsils are in poor condition, causing farmers difficulties in transporting their produce and creating daily challenges for thousands of workers in industrial areas. Local representatives had requested new roads to address these issues, and PMRDA has prioritized construction of main and internal routes to speed up agricultural transport and save workers’ time.

In Shirur tehsil, three key roads are planned, connecting Talegaon Dhamdhere, Majhak Company, and Pimple Jagatap to Karandi Phata, as well as Sunsavadi to Pimple Jagatap. In Maval, roads connecting Karla Phata on the Pune-Bengaluru highway to Malavli railway station, and Seem Kasarsai to Pusane will boost tourism. In Khed tehsil, an 18-meter-wide road near MHADA Housing Society in Mhalunge will improve infrastructure and enhance local connectivity. PMRDA expects the new roads to reduce traffic congestion, improve travel safety, and provide long-term economic benefits to rural communities.
