Police in Baglan crack down on illegal sand transport, seizing three tractors with trolleys worth over ₹12 lakh in a minor mineral offence case
Baglan | February 24,2026: In a targeted crackdown against illicit sand transportation in the Baglan area, police seized significant equipment valued at more than ₹12 lakh after catching suspects engaged in the illegal movement of sand classified as a minor mineral without proper documentation. The operation took place late at night, with law enforcement officers laying a trap near Tungandigar and intercepting vehicles involved in the suspected offence.
According to police officials, three tractors with attached trolleys were confiscated as part of the enforcement action, and the total value of the seized machinery and materials was estimated at around ₹12,18,000. The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by a local police constable after receiving actionable intelligence about unpermitted sand transport activity in the area.
Police registered a case under relevant sections governing minor mineral transportation offences, which prohibit the movement of sand without appropriate permits, documentation, or royalty payment. Authorities say such illegal operations not only deprive the government of revenue but also contribute to environmental degradation and unchecked extraction pressures on riverbeds and other resource areas.

In recent years, enforcement teams across the region have stepped up vigilance against unauthorised mineral transport and extraction, responding to public complaints and environmental concerns. These efforts align with broader initiatives to regulate the sand and minor mineral trade, ensuring that operators comply with legal requirements for passes, permits, and extraction limits. Failure to do so can result in seizure of vehicles and equipment, fines, and legal proceedings against offenders.
Local residents welcomed the police action, saying that illegal sand transport had been a persistent issue, with unregulated vehicles often damaging rural roads and contributing to unsafe driving conditions. By confiscating heavy machinery used in these unlawful operations, authorities aim to send a strong message that such activities will not be tolerated and will be met with strict legal consequences.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts to trace the suppliers and organisers behind the intercepted transport. Officers involved in the case have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal mineral activities and urged citizens to report suspicious movements to assist in further enforcement actions.
The recent seizure of tractors and trolleys in Baglan highlights law enforcement’s intensified focus on illegal sand transport and minor mineral violations. With significant equipment confiscated and legal cases underway, authorities are reinforcing regulatory compliance and environmental safeguards in local mineral trade operations.
