Police Trainee Daughter and Three Others Arrested in Chandrapur After Head Constable’s Death Reclassified as Murder
Chandrapur
Chandrapur Police arrest police trainee daughter and three associates for allegedly poisoning her father, a head constable, nearly three years after his death was treated as accidental.
Chandrapur | 28 March, 2026: A police trainee and three others were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of her father, a head constable, whose death in 2023 was originally treated as an accident but has now been reclassified as a deliberate murder following new investigative leads, police said.
The deceased, Head Constable Jayant Ballawar (45), had collapsed suddenly near the Collectorate administrative building in Chandrapur on 25 April 2023 and was declared dead at the Government Medical College and Hospital. At the time, officials concluded he died of natural causes, and no suspicious circumstances were suspected. However, recent developments in the case have dramatically changed that conclusion.

The breakthrough came after fresh information surfaced, prompting the Ramnagar Police to reopen the investigation. Authorities say that Ballawar’s daughter, Arya Ballawar, who is currently undergoing police training, along with her estranged partner, Ashish Shedmade (30), and two others — identified as Chaitanya alias Monty Gedam (22) and a minor from Bhadrawati — were taken into custody after further inquiries suggested foul play. Investigators believe the crime was carefully concealed for nearly three years before emerging due to new evidence and testimony from the estranged partner.
According to police allegations, the motive for the murder was linked to family conflict over Arya’s romantic relationship with Shedmade. Ballawar reportedly opposed their relationship, leading to repeated disagreements. Investigators now believe that Arya conspired with her partner and others to poison her father to remove him as an obstacle to their plans. It is alleged that poison was obtained through a minor intermediary and delivered to Arya via Chaitanya Gedam for around ₹5,000, after which Arya mixed the substance into her father’s milkshake before he left home for duty on the morning of the incident.
A chemical analysis and review of the autopsy reports following the reopened probe reportedly confirmed the presence of poison in Ballawar’s system, leading police to register charges including murder (Section 302) and criminal conspiracy (Section 120B) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ramnagar Police officials said the four accused are now in custody and the investigation continues to determine whether additional people were involved or there were other actions taken to conceal the crime at the time.
The startling development has shocked both the policing community and local residents in Chandrapur, who had believed the head constable’s death to be a tragic but natural incident at the time. The case highlights how long-buried offenses can be brought to light years later through persistent investigative work and changes in witness cooperation, law enforcement experts said.
In conclusion, the Chandrapur murder case, nearly three years after its initial filing as an accidental death, now stands as a gruesome example of familial betrayal and premeditated murder, with authorities intensifying the probe and preparing formal charges against the accused as legal proceedings advance.
