The Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Pramod Ravindra Chintamani from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹46.5 lakh. He reportedly demanded a total of ₹2 crore from a lawyer to influence a ₹4 crore cheating case. The ACB conducted a well-planned trap on November 2 near Untadiya Maruti Temple in Rasta Peth, where the officer was caught accepting the money.

According to the ACB, Chintamani initially demanded ₹2 lakh but later increased it to ₹2 crore — ₹1 crore for himself and ₹1 crore allegedly for a senior officer. The lawyer then approached the ACB, which verified the demand and laid a trap. During the operation, the officer accepted ₹1.5 lakh in genuine currency and ₹45 lakh in dummy notes marked by the ACB.

A subsequent search of Chintamani’s residence in Gangotri Park, Dighi Road, Bhosari revealed ₹51 lakh in cash, along with jewellery and property documents, raising serious concerns about disproportionate assets. The ACB has now seized these items as part of the ongoing investigation.

Following his arrest, Chintamani was produced in court and remanded in police custody till November 6 for further interrogation. The ACB suspects that the money was meant to ensure favorable treatment for a party involved in the cheating case registered at Bavdhan Police Station.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACB Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande. Officials said this was one of the most significant anti-corruption actions in Pune this year. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also expected to review the case because of the large bribe amount and the alleged involvement of higher-ranking officials.

This case has sparked strong reactions within the police department and legal circles, raising questions about corruption within law enforcement. Authorities say the investigation will continue to identify others who may have been involved in the alleged bribery network.
