Pune Activist Urges Strict Action Against Alleged National Flag Misuse At Clubs Nationwide Entertainment Venues

Pune | February 06,2026:Pune-based entrepreneur, activist and political analyst Prafful P. Sarda has raised serious concerns over the alleged misuse and disrespect of the National Flag at nightclubs, pubs, lounges and sports bars across the country, calling for immediate and stringent enforcement of the Flag Code of India, 2002.

In a formal representation addressed to the President of India, Sarda stated that the Tricolour, revered as a sacred national symbol, is allegedly being used during parties, club events and late-night celebrations in a manner that violates prescribed norms. He said such practices reduce the National Flag to a commercial and promotional prop, undermining its dignity and constitutional sanctity.

Referring to material circulating on social media, Sarda pointed out that several videos and photographs appear to show improper handling and display of the Tricolour at entertainment venues. He noted that the repeated and open nature of such incidents suggests serious gaps in monitoring and enforcement by authorities.

Terming the issue a matter of national concern, Sarda warned that unchecked misuse of national symbols risks trivialising patriotism for profit. He urged the government to initiate visible and deterrent action to ensure strict compliance with the Flag Code.

Among the steps suggested were the issuance of binding guidelines to clubs, pubs, bars, hotels and commercial establishments, along with special inspection drives and surprise checks during events, sports screenings and national occasions. He also sought strict penal action against violators, including heavy fines and suspension or cancellation of licences, while demanding accountability of local police and licensing authorities for lapses in enforcement.
