Pune district officer orders a full review of decisions issued by suspended city tehsildar amid alleged land transaction irregularities; strict action promised.

Pune | November10, 2025: The Pune District Administration has ordered a comprehensive re-investigation of every decision issued by the suspended Pune city tehsildar, following allegations of serious irregularities in high-value land transactions. The tehsildar was suspended after preliminary findings indicated that certain orders involving government land were passed in violation of existing rules, prompting the administration to initiate a district-level review to verify the legality of all actions taken during his tenure.

The collector confirmed that multiple land-related files handled by the official have raised doubts, including orders linked to major plots in Mundhwa and Bopodi. These parcels, originally categorised as government or special-use land, were allegedly processed for ownership transfer or regularisation without adequate legal basis. According to the administration, the processes were halted before final transfer, but the very fact that they reached an advanced stage has triggered a deeper probe.

All orders issued by the suspended tehsildar—ranging from ownership rights, mutation entries, land classification changes, and pattas—will now undergo scrutiny. The collector stated that if investigations uncover misuse of authority, inconsistencies in documentation, or decisions taken without proper verification, stringent action will follow. This may include departmental penalties, cancellation of disputed orders, and further legal proceedings if required.

Officials involved in the review said the suspension was necessary to prevent interference and ensure that all inquiries proceed impartially. A departmental inquiry has already begun, focusing on whether the tehsildar bypassed procedural safeguards, relied on unauthorised provisions, or acted in collusion with parties seeking control of valuable land. Officers are also examining the timeline of file movements, approval notings, and administrative lapses that may have enabled such decisions.

The case has intensified scrutiny on the functioning of the land-revenue system in Pune, especially in the context of rapid urban expansion and rising land values. Experts note that land-governance structures depend heavily on the integrity of local revenue officials, whose quasi-judicial powers over land records, rights, and transfers carry significant public impact. Any deviation can lead to major financial loss to the government and create long-term legal disputes for citizens.

Citizens’ groups have welcomed the decision to re-examine the tehsildar’s orders, viewing it as a necessary step toward administrative transparency. Many have demanded that the findings of the review be made public to restore faith in land-administration processes. The collector has assured that the review will be completed with accuracy and that no irregular order will be allowed to stand.
