PMC has prepared designs to widen Khadki and Range Hills underpasses and begun Defence land acquisition. The project aims to ease heavy congestion and improve connectivity across Bopodi, Aundh, Shivajinagar and Khadki.

Pune|November 29,2025: Daily congestion at the Khadki and Range Hills underpasses has become a routine struggle for commuters, with narrow lanes slowing vehicle flow during peak hours. Motorists say the Khadki underpass near the police station can no longer handle today’s traffic volume, while the single lane at Government Hatcheries Chowk leads to long queues through most of the day.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has now pushed ahead with long-pending plans to widen both rail underpasses. Officials confirmed that preliminary designs are ready and the process of acquiring land from the Ministry of Defence has begun. The expansion aims to improve connectivity for Bopodi, Aundh, Shivajinagar and Khadki, and reduce the load on the busy Bopodi and Shivajinagar underpasses.

PMC is also working on widening the RTO Chowk underpass as part of a larger plan to improve traffic capacity across major corridors in the city. Authorities say the upgrades will help ease chronic congestion once land acquisition and construction are completed.

With designs in place and land acquisition underway, the widening of these rail underpasses could finally bring long-awaited relief to Pune’s most crowded routes.
