PUNE, 13 November 2025 – Pune’s airport-area police have solved eight burglary cases after arresting two adults and a minor accused of breaking into homes and shops during the festive period. The operation brought to light a pattern of well-planned break-ins involving cut locks, quick entries and rapid exits on two-wheelers that were used to transport stolen items. The accused have been identified as Shivam Datt Avchar, aged nineteen, from Narhe, and Navnath, also known as Lakhan Balu Mohite, aged twenty-two, from Hadapsar. Along with them, a juvenile was also detained for participating in the crimes. Their arrest followed several complaints from residents who returned home during Diwali only to discover missing gold jewellery and cash.
During the investigation, the police observed similarities across multiple cases including the manner of entry, the selection of premises and the timing of the incidents. This helped the airport-area team narrow down the suspects. When officers moved in, the accused were found in possession of stolen goods and eventually confessed to carrying out eight burglaries across the region. Stolen property worth around fourteen lakh rupees was recovered, including gold worth ten lakh and additional valuables and items amounting to roughly two and a half lakh. Police also seized two two-wheelers that were allegedly used by the accused to move around residential lanes and escape quickly after each break-in.
The action was led by officers under the airport-zone jurisdiction, who worked through festival days and late nights to identify and track the pattern of movement. Many of the incidents occurred when families were away celebrating Diwali, a period that often creates opportunities for such offenders. The arrests have brought significant relief to residents living near the airport, Viman Nagar and surrounding neighbourhoods where similar incidents have been reported over the past few years.
Police officials said the accused were familiar with the layout of these localities and targeted places where security systems were minimal. They looked for locked homes, closed shutters and low-lit areas to avoid attention. The theft of gold jewellery had become a particular concern because of its high resale value and the ease with which it can be transported and exchanged. Officers are now working to verify where the stolen items were intended to be sold and whether the group had a larger network. The recovered jewellery is being documented so it can be returned to the rightful owners after legal procedures.
The accused will be produced in court and remanded for further questioning. The juvenile will be handled under the provisions meant for minors. Investigators are checking whether the trio were involved in earlier unsolved cases and if more individuals are linked to this chain. CCTV footage from multiple lanes, commercial corridors and residential societies is also under review to trace the movements of the group before and after each crime.
For the community, the case highlights the importance of securing homes during festive travel, maintaining updated surveillance systems, and coordinating with neighbours when leaving for extended periods. The police have urged residents to report any suspicious activities immediately and to double-check the locking mechanisms of their properties. With the recovery of stolen property and the admission from the suspects, the airport-area police believe this breakthrough will help prevent similar incidents in upcoming months and strengthen public trust in local law enforcement.
