Efforts are underway to introduce the government’s Fast Track Immigration (FTI) system at Pune airport, promising faster clearance for international travellers amid rising passenger traffic.

Pune|February 11, 2026: The Ministry of Civil Aviation is pursuing the implementation of the automated Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at Pune airport. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, stated that discussions with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees immigration services, will be held to extend the system to the city’s international terminal.

The FTI-TTP allows pre-verified passengers to clear immigration via automated e-gates, significantly reducing waiting times. Launched last year, the system is already operational at 13 major airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, and Ahmedabad, and was expanded in September 2025 to cities such as Lucknow, Amritsar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirapalli, and Kozhikode.

Pune airport currently operates direct international flights to Dubai and Bangkok, with nearly 30,000 passengers travelling monthly. Official figures show international traffic surged from 2.05 lakh in 2024 to 3.38 lakh in 2025, reflecting a nearly 65% growth.

Frequent flyers have welcomed the initiative, noting repeated delays at immigration counters where only a few were operational, often causing long queues. Passengers expect that automated e-gates will enhance efficiency and improve the travel experience at the rapidly expanding airport.Airport authorities also emphasised operational benefits, highlighting that delays in immigration clearance can affect aircraft turnaround times. Planes cannot vacate parking bays until all passengers complete immigration and customs procedures, which can disrupt parking and air traffic flow during peak hours.

The move to implement FTI at Pune airport reflects the government’s efforts to modernise passenger services and streamline international travel at India’s growing regional hubs.
