Pune | 26 February 2026: A 69-year-old retired government officer allegedly died by suicide at an under-construction building site in Baner, triggering serious allegations of cheating and mental harassment against developer Jayantilal Tarachand Oswal and his son, Rishabh Oswal. The incident, which falls under the jurisdiction of Baner Police Station, has sent shockwaves through Pune’s real estate sector.

An FIR has been registered at Baner Police Station against Jayantilal Oswal and his son in connection with the case. According to police sources, the retired officer had entered into a development agreement under which he was promised residential flats and financial dues in exchange for his land. However, alleged delays and non-fulfilment of commitments reportedly caused him prolonged distress. A suicide note recovered from the spot is said to detail his pain and name the accused developers in connection with the dispute. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, police registered offences related to abetment of suicide and cheating.

Despite the FIR, Jayantilal Oswal and Rishabh Oswal are reportedly still at large. Police teams have so far been unable to trace the accused. Sources indicate that the duo may approach the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the coming days. Meanwhile, real estate sources suggest that more individuals may approach Pune Police with similar complaints of alleged cheating. Authorities are examining documents and recording statements as part of the ongoing investigation, even as public scrutiny over the case continues to intensify.
