Minimum temperature in Pune falls to 9.4 °C in Shivajinagar as cold-wave sweeps in. Clear skies and dry north-westerly winds push city into single-digit territory.

Pune | November18,2025: As winter makes an early and sharp arrival in Pune, the city experienced its first single-digit minimum temperature of the season on Tuesday, with the Shivajinagar area registering a low of 9.4 °C and neighbouring Pashan recording an even colder 9.0 °C. This dramatic dip comes amid dry north-westerly winds, clear skies and rapidly falling humidity — conditions that have accelerated radiational cooling across the region.

For most residents of Pune, this marked a colder start than typical for this time of year. The night minimums here have slipped well below the seasonal average, signalling the onset of a stronger chill than usual for mid-November. Meteorologists note that while valley or higher-altitude areas around Pune had already touched single-digits, this is the first time a prominent city-zone like Shivajinagar has dipped below 10 °C this season.

Weather experts attribute the plunge to a combination of factors: a largely cloud-free sky overnight which allows more heat to escape, dry winds from the northwest that suppress moisture, and relatively calm conditions that contribute to faster cooling of the surface. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a “yellow” level cold-wave alert for isolated pockets of the district, cautioning residents to take precautions such as wearing layers, covering extremities, and limiting early-morning outdoor exposure.

Daytime highs are also somewhat suppressed — the usual warmth of early afternoon has not fully offset the chill of the mornings. This compound effect makes the overall sensation of cold more intense than what the thermometer alone might suggest. Residents report using winter jackets, feeling a sharper bite in the air during morning walks, and seeing visible breath in some open spaces.

Looking ahead, the minimum temperatures are expected to gradually climb after November 18, with predictions that nights may settle around 13-14 °C and daytime highs near 30 °C. However, until that rise occurs, the next 24-48 hours are likely to remain unnervingly cold.
