What was once considered a secure pathway to employment-campus placements-has now become a source of anxiety for many freshers who are still waiting months, and in some cases nearly a year, for their joining dates.
According to reports, several students who secured placements during the 2025 campus recruitment cycle-particularly from institutes linked to the Hinjawadi IT Park—have yet to receive confirmation about their onboarding timelines. Many had successfully cleared aptitude tests, technical interviews, and HR rounds, and were issued formal offer letters. However, despite repeated follow-ups, they have not received clear communication from employers regarding their joining schedules.

The situation has placed fresh graduates in a difficult position. A significant number of candidates had declined alternative job offers or postponed higher education plans after securing campus placements. With prolonged delays, many now find themselves in a state of professional uncertainty, facing financial pressure and emotional stress. Industry groups like the Forum for IT Employees have reportedly been receiving daily complaints from affected candidates, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in recruitment practices.
Experts attribute this trend to a wider slowdown in India’s IT hiring landscape. Over the past few years, companies have become increasingly cautious due to global economic uncertainties, reduced project demand, and the growing influence of automation and artificial intelligence. As a result, firms are shifting away from mass hiring and focusing instead on specialized skills in areas such as AI, cloud computing, and data analytics.
Additionally, several major IT companies have reportedly altered their hiring strategies, choosing to onboard freshers in phases rather than all at once. In some cases, firms are prioritizing the utilization of existing employees over recruiting new graduates, further contributing to delays in onboarding. Reports indicate that even large batches of selected candidates-sometimes numbering over 1,000-are still waiting for offer letters or joining dates months after selection.
The impact of this slowdown is not limited to Pune. Across India, engineering graduates are experiencing similar challenges, with companies deferring joining dates or issuing conditional offers. While top-tier institutions continue to see strong placement packages, overall hiring volumes have declined, and entry-level opportunities have become more competitive and selective.
For many students, the lack of communication from employers has been particularly frustrating. Placement officers and industry observers warn that such delays could erode trust in campus recruitment systems, which have long been a cornerstone of engineering education in India.
At the same time, experts advise graduates to adapt to changing industry demands by upskilling in emerging technologies and remaining flexible in exploring alternative career paths. As the IT sector undergoes structural changes, the traditional model of guaranteed employment through campus placements is gradually evolving.
