The Bopodi land deal case took a sharp turn after key names, including Digvijay Patil and Sheetal Tejwani, were removed from the FIR during review.

10 November 2025, Pune – The high-profile Bopodi land deal case has taken an unexpected turn, with the names of Digvijay Amarsinh Patil and Sheetal Kishanchand Tejwani being dropped from the primary FIR after a review of documents by the investigating authorities. The case involves nearly 5.35 hectares of government-owned agriculture department land in Bopodi, which officials allege was transferred to private parties through flawed or misused quasi-judicial orders. Earlier, the FIR had mentioned multiple individuals connected to Amadea Enterprises LLP, a company linked to Parth Pawar, but the latest development has altered the list of accused.

Investigators say that during the re-examination of land records, mutation entries and signatures, discrepancies emerged that led to the removal of certain names. Authorities are now focusing on the officials who facilitated the transfer, the legal advice taken at each stage and the administrative process that enabled government land to be declared privately owned within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits. One of the key issues under scrutiny is the application of the Mumbai Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act, 1948, to a plot located under PMC jurisdiction — an inconsistency that sparked the original suspicion. Teams handling the case say the misuse of this act could not have been done without coordinated actions within multiple offices, including the tehsildar’s department and the sub-registrar’s office.

Alongside this case, a related investigation is underway into a separate land transaction involving around 40 acres in the Koregaon Park–Mundhwa belt. That land, estimated to be worth nearly ₹1,800 crore, was allegedly acquired for around ₹300 crore. Because of the scale and complexity of these transactions, a Special Investigation Team has been formed to examine the entire trail of documentation. Officials are reviewing sale deeds, legal opinions, property history, power-of-attorney records and whether approvals were granted based on genuine information or manipulated paperwork.

The removal of Patil and Tejwani’s names from the FIR has triggered political debate. Opposition leaders have accused the ruling administration of shielding influential individuals and weakening the case intentionally. Government sources have countered that the FIR revision is purely procedural and based on the updated document audit, adding that investigations into the remaining accused will move forward uncompromised. Meanwhile, police sources mention that immigration authorities were earlier alerted about the possibility of certain individuals attempting to leave the country. Officers say that despite the FIR revision, ongoing probes will continue to examine financial trails and cross-check if anyone connected to the case has moved assets abroad.

Real-estate observers believe the Bopodi land holds significant commercial value, given its location near key transport corridors and residential zones. The Koregaon Park–Mundhwa land is even more contentious due to its scale and premium urban location. Experts argue that lapses like these highlight the long-standing issues in Maharashtra’s land administration system, where records, valuations and approvals often collide with political pressures and legal ambiguity.

As the investigation proceeds, all eyes are on the final report that will determine how the land was transferred, whether criminal conspiracy can be established and whether more names will eventually be added or cleared. With both cases drawing significant public attention, the outcome carries political, administrative and legal weight for the state heading into an important electoral period.
