Pune Man Booked For Allegedly Neglecting Elderly Parents After Ignoring Maintenance Order
A Pune man has been booked for failing to provide maintenance to his elderly parents despite a tribunal order. The parents allege neglect and misuse of their property — police have launched an investigation
Pune | December 4, 2025: A 57-year-old resident of Kate Vasti in the Dighi area has been booked after his 82-year-old father accused him of abandoning parental responsibilities despite a legal directive. According to police, a tribunal had ordered the son in December last year to pay ₹5,000 per month for the mother’s care. However, the elderly couple claim that no financial support has been provided since the order was issued.
The father told police that although both families live under the same roof, he and his wife are forced to depend on neighbours for food and daily needs. In his complaint, he further alleged that his son transferred ownership of his shop without consent and removed goods worth around ₹25 lakh.
Following the complaint, the Dighi Police initiated a detailed inquiry. Officers are verifying documents related to the shop transfer, examining the family’s financial records, and cross-checking claims of neglect. Officials stated that necessary action will be taken based on the findings.
The case once again brings attention to the legal provisions under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, which requires adult children to ensure the well-being of their aging parents. Authorities say that strict enforcement of this law is essential to protect vulnerable seniors who often hesitate to speak out against neglect within families.
