The extension is seen as a key step toward reducing dependency on private vehicles and making Pune’s transport network more efficient and sustainable.

Pune| November 1, 2025: Pune Metro’s much-awaited Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, has reached a significant milestone as trial runs are now being extended up to Baner. The move is expected to bring immediate relief to thousands of IT professionals who travel daily between Hinjawadi, Balewadi, and Baner.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has confirmed that the ongoing trials are progressing smoothly and the stretch till Baner will be operational for testing from mid-November. Line 3 is a 23.3-km elevated corridor built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Tata Group and Siemens overseeing construction and technology integration.

Officials said that full-fledged commercial operations of Line-3 are expected to begin by March 2026, connecting major residential and commercial hubs along the western IT belt. Once operational, this line will ease congestion on the busy Pune-Bengaluru Highway and cut travel time between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar to just 30–35 minutes.

The project, which had earlier faced delays due to land acquisition and technical approvals, is now back on track with steady progress. Authorities are also focusing on last-mile connectivity to ensure smooth access to metro stations in Baner and Balewadi.
