Pune Metro is set to introduce a one-of-its-kind coach restaurant near District Court Metro Station, aiming to enhance commuter experience and generate additional revenue through innovative infrastructure use.
Pune | March 23, 2026: In a unique initiative to enhance commuter experience, Pune Metro is preparing to launch a “Metro Coach Restaurant” near the District Court Metro Station, offering passengers and visitors a distinctive dining experience inside a repurposed metro coach.
The project, developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, involves converting an old metro coach into a fully functional, air-conditioned restaurant. Officials confirmed that the work on the project has been completed and the facility is expected to open to the public soon after final formalities are completed.

Located near the Family Court close to the District Court Metro Station Pune, the restaurant has been strategically positioned to attract daily commuters as well as visitors. The station itself is a major interchange hub connecting key metro corridors, making it one of the busiest transit points in the city.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at boosting non-fare revenue for Pune Metro while also improving passenger amenities. With lakhs of commuters travelling daily on major routes such as Vanaz–Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad–Swargate, the project is expected to draw significant footfall.
The restaurant has been designed to provide a comfortable and modern dining environment, featuring a multi-cuisine menu catering to a wide range of preferences. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are expected to be available, with services likely to include breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings.

Authorities highlighted that the concept is not only about offering food but also about creating a novel experience where people can enjoy meals inside an actual metro coach. The interiors have been carefully designed to maintain a balance between the original structure of the coach and contemporary restaurant aesthetics.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among metro rail corporations across India to explore innovative ways of utilising existing assets and generating additional income. By repurposing decommissioned coaches, authorities are also promoting sustainability through reuse of infrastructure.
Officials believe that the coach restaurant will become a popular attraction, especially among young commuters and families looking for unique dining options. Its central location in Shivajinagar, coupled with easy accessibility via multiple metro lines, is expected to further boost its appeal.
The project is also seen as part of a broader effort by Pune Metro to improve commuter convenience and make metro stations more than just transit points. Similar initiatives, including retail outlets and improved last-mile connectivity, are being introduced to enhance the overall urban mobility experience.
With the launch expected soon, the Metro Coach Restaurant is likely to add a new dimension to Pune’s dining and transport landscape, blending travel with leisure in an innovative way.
