Pune Police Seize 1,150 Litres of Illicit Liquor in Hand-to-Hand Operation, Four Arrested

In a major crackdown on illegal liquor distribution, Pune police seized 1,150 litres of illicit alcohol during a hand-to-hand operation in the city’s Vanwadi area on December 23, 2025
Pune| December 24,2025: The investigation revealed that the contraband was being transported in vehicles and prepared for sale in Pune. Four individuals were identified and taken into custody during the operation: 32-year-old Riyaz Shaikh from Deobandwali, 21-year-old Bapu Sable from Sontapawadi Fata, 19-year-old Vijay Wable from Hegnar, and 18-year-old Vishal Durgudh Sangodkar from Gajmudi village. Further inquiries established that the accused were involved in distributing liquor across Pune, including areas like Khadakpada and Yavat.
During the raids, police recovered 35 litres of liquor packed in plastic containers, along with 33 crates and the remaining stock totaling 1,150 litres. The total market value of the seized liquor is estimated at ₹1,65,500. The Pune police Vanwadi division has registered a criminal case against the accused and continues to investigate to uncover the full network behind the illegal operations.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Additional Police Inspectors, and officers from the Vanwadi police station, coordinated the operation. The team worked under the guidance of senior police inspector Shreeram Shek, and the action was part of ongoing efforts to curb the illicit liquor trade and enforce the law in Pune.
Police have assured the public that such operations will continue, emphasizing that illegal alcohol distribution not only violates the law but also poses serious risks to public health and safety. The seized liquor and vehicles used for transport were impounded, and further legal proceedings are underway against the accused.
