Pune | 23 March, 2026: In a major enforcement drive aimed at improving passenger safety and hygiene, the Pune Railway Division has taken strict action against unauthorized hawkers, booking a total of 7,118 cases and collecting fines amounting to over ₹58 lakh. The , carried out between April 2025 and March 12, 2026, reflects intensified efforts by railway authorities to curb illegal vending across stations and trains.

Officials stated that the targeted unauthorized sale of food items and unapproved packaged drinking water, both of which pose risks to passenger health and violate railway regulations. During the drive, authorities also seized 2,743 bottles of non-approved packaged drinking water being sold illegally on railway premises.
The enforcement operations were conducted jointly by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Commercial Department, ensuring strict monitoring at stations and onboard trains. According to officials, the highest number of violations was recorded in June, indicating a surge in unauthorized vending during peak travel periods.
Railway authorities emphasized that such actions are necessary to maintain cleanliness, ensure quality food and water for passengers, and prevent exploitation through unauthorized sales. Officials also urged passengers to avoid purchasing items from illegal vendors and instead rely on authorized outlets to ensure safety and hygiene standards.
This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort by Indian Railways to strengthen compliance and improve the overall travel experience. Similar drives in the past have resulted in fines and penalties for vendors violating rules related to overcharging and unauthorized sales, highlighting the administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward such practices.
