Pune Railway Station will undergo a ₹400 crore redevelopment aimed at modernising passenger facilities and easing congestion. The project is expected to be completed next year, with Khadki and Hadapsar terminals supporting operations.

April 4, 2026 | Pune: The Pune Railway Station is set to witness a complete transformation as the Railways has approved redevelopment works worth nearly ₹400 crore, marking one of the biggest infrastructure upgrades for the city’s transport network. The project aims to modernise the station, improve passenger amenities, and reduce congestion at one of Maharashtra’s busiest railway hubs. Senior officials from the Pune railway division confirmed that the master plan for the redevelopment is in its final stage and the work will be executed in a phased manner to ensure minimal inconvenience to commuters. Authorities stated that the entire redevelopment project is targeted for completion within the next year.

As part of the plan, the station will be equipped with advanced passenger facilities including improved waiting areas, upgraded platforms, modern toilets, better lighting, enhanced security systems, and improved accessibility features for senior citizens and differently-abled travellers. The redevelopment will also focus on smoother entry and exit points to avoid crowding during peak hours. Railway officials said that the increasing passenger load at Pune station has made redevelopment essential. With Pune emerging as a major IT, industrial, and education hub, the demand for better rail infrastructure has grown rapidly over the past few years.

To manage the heavy traffic during the redevelopment phase and in the future, Khadki and Hadapsar railway terminals will be developed as support terminals. This move is expected to help reduce operational pressure on the main Pune station and improve train movement efficiency across the region. The redevelopment is also expected to strengthen Pune’s position as a key rail junction connecting Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and other major cities. Officials believe that once completed, the station will match the standards of newly redeveloped railway stations in other metro cities.

The project is likely to include improved parking facilities, better passenger circulation areas, upgraded signage systems, and enhanced commercial spaces, making the station more commuter-friendly and modern in appearance. The redevelopment of Pune Railway Station is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening the city’s public transport infrastructure while ensuring a better travel experience for lakhs of passengers.
