Pune Passport Office launches mobile service at Fergusson College Book Festival from Dec 13-20 to help applicants complete passport work easily.

Pune|11 December 2025: The Regional Passport Office in Pune is rolling out on-site passport services at the upcoming book festival in Fergusson College. A dedicated Passport Mobile Seva Kendra will operate on the college premises for eight days, from December 13 to December 20. The initiative falls under the “Passport Office at Your Doorstep” program, designed to make passport services more accessible for students, families and working professionals who often struggle with long appointment queues.

The book festival itself is scheduled from December 13 to December 21 and is expected to draw thousands of readers, writers and young participants from across Pune. With a large number of students regularly visiting the event, the mobile passport unit aims to offer timely support to those preparing for study abroad applications, internships or upcoming travel plans.

The mobile centre will function daily from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Applicants must apply online in advance and select the mobile van option while booking an appointment. Once the application is submitted and the fee is paid, the system allows users to choose “Mobile Van” as their preferred location, enabling them to avoid the long waiting period often seen at the main passport office.

Visitors can submit new passport applications under the Normal scheme, complete document verification and receive guidance on next steps in the process. Officials have advised applicants to carry all original documents, including identity proof, address proof, and date-of-birth proof, to ensure smooth verification. Keeping the application receipt and appointment details handy will speed up processing.

The move comes at a time when passport demand in Pune continues to rise. More residents are applying for passports for education, business travel, and leisure. To handle increased demand, mobile units and outreach setups are being used more frequently to reduce backlog and improve accessibility. Setting up the service at a campus known for large student footfall gives young applicants a chance to complete essential formalities without disrupting their academic schedule.

For many visitors, the combination of a cultural event and a civic service means they can complete both personal and administrative tasks in one visit. The book festival, known for its lively participation and diverse programming, provides an ideal venue for citizen-focused initiatives. The mobile passport van is expected to see strong turnout, especially in the first weekend of the festival.

This effort reflects a growing shift toward taking government services directly to citizens. By placing essential services in public spaces and popular events, authorities are attempting to reduce barriers, cut down travel time and simplify administrative processes. If successful, similar mobile setups may be introduced at other major gatherings or academic institutions in the future.
